The Brief – Virtual Tour and Google Maps Tour
The Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley is a beautiful resort in Greater Sydney, but not in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. After being inspired by the Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley’s virtual tour (now the Rydges Resort Hunter Valley), they also wanted a branded immersive 360 virtual tour experience. This way, people from all parts of Sydney could experience and see their resort and all they have to offer first-hand.
In addition, the Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley team wanted to design it to be a high-end sales and marketing tool. While easy to navigate and understand for guests, they also wanted it to be an excellent sales tool for their events and marketing team focused on their corporate clients. With our Live-Guided Tour feature integration, they added Zoom/Skype/Google Meet integration into the virtual tour. This allows their sales team to host virtual walk-throughs with prospective clients worldwide.
In addition, just like all our high-end virtual tours, this is VR-enabled, and people can walk through the resort like they are there in person. Lastly, the team wanted to take advantage of Google Maps and upload the 360 images to increase their Google Maps rankings and their local map presence.
What We Loved About This Project
While the Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley is a beautiful resort, the team got to flex their creative and technical muscles. Bringing together such an expansive location (Mega Tour) is always an enjoyable challenge for our team, but we wanted to push ourselves further. You will see a camera icon as you walk through the facilities in some locations. This will take you to a different set-up or time of day experience. For example, when you click the icon in the Samuel Masden Courtyard, it will change the spot from day to night. Traditionally, you would not move your camera as even the slightest displacement of the camera changes the 360 perspective.
In this instance, we could not leave our equipment in this location as it can get busy. As a result, we had to refine our existing techniques and create new ones for a seamless day/night experience.
Fun Fact: this location is next to an Australian Air Force military air base. You can’t just get a drone and fly it right next to the air base, and we had to work with the air base and CASA to take this fantastic 360 drone shot. We are delighted to see how the 360 photo turned out.
