The Brief – 360 Virtual Tour and Google Street View
Chifley College Bidwill Campus approached us to create a 360 virtual tour of their large and diverse campus. The focus was to showcase all they have to offer for local students in and around Western Sydney. One of the main requirements was to showcase the entire school as though you are walking through it yourself in person.
The next focus for the virtual tour is the VR focus and to bring the school into the digital space. You can use any VR headset to experience the virtual tour from a cost-effective Google Cardboard to a higher-end Oculus. Lastly, the internet is not reliable in the surrounding suburbs and is taken into account for the project. Multiple optimisations and adaptive compression techniques were implemented to ensure a smooth experience.
What We Loved About This Project
What makes the 360 virtual tour for Chifley College Bidwill Campus unique is its scope. This is the largest virtual walkthrough tour we have ever undertaken. Simply 360 has photographed large areas before but not like this. What makes this special is that you can walk through the school and into various rooms. Traditionally you would jump from room to room or focus to focus point in a virtual tour. In this tour, you can walk from one part of the school right through to the other side.
Additionally, many members of the teaching staff were involved in the process. They decorated their specific classrooms with a key focus on the curriculum and what is available at the school. Our personal favourite is HISE Room #2 (check it out :) ).
