The Brief – Virtual Tour & Google Maps Tour

Sutherland Shire Council engaged us to capture a sophisticated, branded 360 virtual tour of the newly completed Kirrawee Library+, ensuring its expanded creative, educational, and media spaces were accurately represented online. Alongside, a Google Maps tour was integrated to provide external orientation and discoverability from the street.

We scheduled the capture early at 7 am, coordinating with maintenance teams to prep lighting, furniture, finishes, and ensure public spaces were staged. This timing allowed us to record primary visitor zones, the foyer, reading areas, and collaboration spaces before opening. As execution progressed, we transitioned into capturing the technical and creative rooms, podcast studios, media labs, screening theatres, green/white screen rooms, and live control areas that demand focused lighting and minimal disruption.

The project scope included mapping and imaging a curated list of spaces: Venue+ events room, foyer, theatre/screen room, workshop and maker zones, collaboration lounges, children’s areas, quiet rooms, podcast and recording rooms, dressing / green/white screen rooms, and control/live tech studios. Exterior imagery capturing entrances, walkways, and context to South Village was also included to help guide virtual visitors from street level into indoor navigation.

What We Loved About This Project

Bringing together a facility like Kirrawee, which blends traditional library services with full creative media zones, was exciting. The studio’s green/white screen, podcast, and recording stood out due to their design sophistication and technology integration. Rendering these into immersive tours allowed us to represent not just walls and furniture, but the underlying purpose, ambience, and journey between spaces. We also included support for VR viewing. The branded 360 virtual tour enables users to explore Kirrawee Library+ in a fully immersive environment via compatible headsets or browser VR mode.

We enjoyed connecting aesthetic sensibility and spatial logic, for example, linking the foyer through visual sightlines into the theatre and from event rooms back to quieter corners. Our sequencing ensured public areas were clean and uninterrupted first, which enabled us to later focus on less visible zones with precision. Embedding a Google Maps preview helps users tie the interior experience back to physical arrival, enhancing wayfinding and user confidence before they visit in person.

About the Client

Kirrawee Library+ is the Sutherland Shire Council’s flagship creative and community library, located at 6 Kiln Road in the South Village precinct of Kirrawee. As the Shire’s ninth library, it was conceived not just as a place to borrow books, but as a multimedia and creative hub where residents can learn, perform, collaborate, and produce. The facility spans approximately 1,500 m² and was developed as a $10 million project to bring together technology, arts, and library services under one roof.

Some of the more ambitious facilities include fully equipped recording and live sound studios, green/white screen media rooms, a media lab with editing suites, bookable workshop and event zones, a theatre/screening room, collaborative lounges, quiet reading areas, children’s sections, and cutting-edge digital infrastructure. It also incorporates a growing collection that expands beyond books to musical instruments, audio kits, and media resources.

Council describes the facility as “a library, plus so much more,” with the vision to support local makers, storytellers, creators, and students. By integrating traditional library uses with spaces for creative production, Kirrawee Library+ is positioned as a destination for innovation and community growth. Its design emphasises flexibility, future-ready technology, and strong community engagement.

The facility is anchored within the South Village development, offering seamless access from retail and residential precincts, parking, and green spaces. It serves as both a cultural beacon and a practical daily resource for residents, providing extended services like bookable creative rooms, media services, and hybrid library engagement. Kirrawee Library+ is intended to grow with the community’s evolving needs and is publicly promoted as not only a library but a hub for creativity, innovation, and community connection.
