The Brief – Virtual Tour and Google Maps Tour
The City of Gold Coast approached us to create a high-end 360 virtual tour with a unique project that aimed to upgrade Kirra Hill to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and visitors from landslides and rock slips. The project also aimed to reduce the risk of erosion, landslips, and rockfalls while preserving the headland. You can read more about the project below. We had to photograph the area with our high-end 360 equipment and 360 aerial photography to oversee the whole area. Upon completion, we also had to create an artistic impression of the area’s appearance.
To achieve these objectives, we were tasked with creating a high-end virtual tour that would be easy to use and understand for the local community. We knew that people of all ages and backgrounds, with varying levels of tech experience, would access the virtual tour. Therefore, we reviewed everything from the font, sizing, formatting, and even the ability to view road closures at multiple levels through the council to ensure the highest quality.
Our team worked tirelessly to create a virtual tour to meet the council’s requirements and exceed the local community’s expectations. We wanted to create an immersive experience allowing visitors to explore the Kirra Hill Stabilisation Project and its surroundings from the comfort of their homes. The virtual tour is even VR-enabled, meaning you can walk through the Kirra Hill stabilisation project yourself as though you were there.
What We Loved About This Project
There is one very unique feature of this virtual tour, and that is the 360 artists’ impression. While we have a world-leading design and editing team, this is the first time we have been asked to edit in this style. In addition, we had to draw it to scale. While it is in a pencil line style, every angle and perspective had to be meticulously calculated.
We also loved that the team could go to other Gold Coast and see the project firsthand and the work the City of Gold Coast was doing for their community.
About the Kirra Hill Stabilisation Project
In 2020 and 2021, the residents of Kirra Hill witnessed a series of rockfalls that caused significant damage to the area. The incidents prompted geotechnical surveys, which revealed that the steep slope of the headland must be stabilised to reduce the risk of future landslides, rockfall and erosion. The unstable slope threatens the safety of pedestrians and road users and puts the surrounding properties at risk. Therefore, stabilising the slope has become a top priority for the local authorities.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians and road users, water barriers have been positioned along Marine Parade as a temporary safety measure. These barriers will protect the public from potential rockfalls until the headland stabilises. Stabilising the slope will improve safety, restore the area’s beauty, and preserve its natural heritage.
