The Brief – Google Maps Tour

Santos Customs Jewellers in Rouse Hill approached us to deliver a Google Maps virtual tour which not only captures their jewellery displays, but also helps customers navigate their way to the correct entrance with minimal confusion. Because the store is on **ground level**, that simplifies elevation, but the challenge lies in multiple approaches: from the carpark, via mall corridors, and from escalator paths. Visitors often had three different routes they might use, and choosing the wrong path could lead them to doors that weren’t the main storefront.

To address this, we recorded interior 360° panoramas, enriched with hotspot navigation on key product zones, and we created multiple exterior viewpoints from various approach lines—front façade, side walkways, and vantage points from the escalator route. This ensures that regardless of which direction a visitor arrives from, their visual path leads them to the correct entrance. We scheduled filming during lower foot traffic windows and kept our crew out of frame to deliver clean, uninterrupted views. Moreover, we used precise geo-positioning not just horizontally but also tied to the correct floor level (even though it is ground) to avoid users being misdirected to adjacent premises or passageways. Throughout the shoot, we also coordinated with the client to prioritise which display areas we’d capture in the best light first, and adjusted sequencing to avoid overlap with background traffic.

What We Loved About This Project

The project for Santos Customs Jewellers stretched both our creative and navigational skills. Inside, we focused on capturing the interplay of light, display layout, materials, and fine jewellery detail — presenting Santos’ craftsmanship in the best possible way. Outside, we enjoyed taking panoramas from several approach paths, especially from the escalator direction, which is often a less obvious approach. By doing so, users can see “from here, walk past Doughnut King, then straight ahead” in the map view.

One technical aspect we appreciated was ensuring mapping clarity even with multiple entrance options. Even though the store is ground level, the presence of adjacent paths means small misplacements can still mislead. By combining visual clarity with mapping precision, we aimed for a tour that is not only beautiful but truly functional. We also timed our captures to avoid pedestrian interference and minimised movement in shot zones.
